The only design requirement for this lighting project was a pre-determined fixture and the 8.5×11 envelope the entire lamp contents had to fit within. Wanting to create a lamp much larger than the limiting packaging requirements, we decided to use a tessellating origami fold pattern to create collapsible sheets that could be pinned together to form a lamp. Consisting of just four 12×18 sheets of mylar, five earring pins, the light fixture, and an assembly instruction sheet, the Origami Lamp is a clean and elegant fixture with an intricate texture that emits soft and pleasing diffuse light.
